Frequently Asked Questions

How young can we start?

all children seem to love to move and groove even as infants. for dance classes we suggest holding off until they are solid walkers, usually around 18 months.

Are we too late to start?

Of course not! Many dancers do not start until they are well into their teens.
for our young dancers through age 6 our groove and grow classes are age based. we are focused on dance as a tool for developmental learning.
from 7 years and up we shift our focus to incorporate more technique. accordingly, our elevate and execute classes are broken out by both age and skill.

How intensive should the program be?

there are many schools of thought on this, however, at groove we feel that before the age of 6 and a half, the program should stress the importance of creative movement – more fun than form. for this reason, we offer a combo class so the dancer can stay engaged and eager to learn. after the age of six and a half, children are more ready to handle a structured and more technical style dance class. we always provide an age-appropriate curriculum that both challenges and excites the dancer. If the child has chosen dance to be their “sport”, you might want to have them taking multiple styles of dance per week, i.e. ballet, jazz and tap.

Can boys do this too?

of course, there are no gender restrictions in dance!

boys can absolutely take dance classes and benefit from them in numerous ways. Dance offers physical, mental, and social advantages for boys, just as it does for girls

Dance allows all children to express themselves creatively and emotionally through movement, building confidence and self-esteem

The main goals of a children’s dance class are to foster physical development, enhance cognitive skills, and nurture social and emotional growth. Specifically, these classes aim to improve coordination, flexibility, and strength while also boosting confidence, creativity, and teamwork abilities

What style of dance is best for my child?

Groove believes that you must learn to walk before you can run, therefore, ballet is the best place to start. Once there is a strong foundation in ballet the sky is the limit as far as styles go – check out hip hop, jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical or anything in between.

What are the goals in dance for children?

First and foremost, classes for children should teach a love and appreciation for movement. Dance also teaches strength, coordination, flexibility, patience, grace and commitment. These characteristics will be carried throughout a lifetime and utilized in all aspects of a child’s future.

What is the cost of classes?

Classes cost $115 every 4 weeks. Enrollment is ongoing so may join at any time! Feel free to contact us with any questions or to schedule a class.

can we try a class before committing to ongoing class

We want to make sure your dancer and you are completely happy with our classes. Once we figure out the best class for you, we get you registered into our system and actually enroll you into that class so your spot is held. We do not run the charge for the class until you’ve taken your first class. If after your first class, it wasn’t the right fit or for whatever reason you choose not to continue we remove you from the class and remove the charge. As long as everything was terrific and you and Dancer are happy we just add payment information and you keep on dancing.

what happens when i miss a class

we have 4 kids of our own so we know a thing or two about missing classes. Missed classes can be made up at any time in any age appropriate class on the schedule as long as the child’s enrollment remains active. Make-ups are not transferable to other students.  You must call ahead to schedule your make-up!  If you cannot attend a scheduled make-up, and do not cancel 24 hours prior, it will be counted as one anyway. Missed classes will not be credited or refunded they have no monetary value and can not be used instead of paying tuition.
